Hi all!
Finally getting around to writing up my turn report for Lure. I don't have as many details
remembered as I normally like to have, but this is due primarily
to a lack of sleep and alcohol, rather than time erasing my recall.
Fortunately Wolfgang has provided the results, and this helps some,
but not as much as I had hoped. Stefan Fankel and I drove to the
Rhine on friday morning. We ignored the many signs saying that there
was "No Way Forward" on our chosen path, as we hoped that
the signs "Might be Lies". If those signs were true than
we wouldn't make it before the first round started. But we made
it despite the construction enroute and checked in without incident.
Stefan and I had earlier thought about playing in the Dual-Quad Constructed Team Game, but then decided
against it. We did bring some constructed decks, but nothing designed
to play team-wise. However, when registration was complete, Stefan
and I reconsidered and became the 4th team in the Dual Quad Team
Game, saving this game from cancellation.
I don't remember too much about these games, except that Kuba Krchak and Petr Köppel
were playing a dunk deck that worked very well. They ended up winning
it all, and they dunked it on Stefan and I. Overall it was a fun
format and would love to try it again with some decks designed for
it, but this will have to wait for another day. We finished 3rd
out of 4.
That night was the drinking game. A lot of people there (26), and 3 rounds were played. I don't
remember too much about these games either. My deck wasn't terribly
inspiring, and can't even tell you what fixed deck I had. I won
2 out of 3 games, but all were close when the points were counted
up. 4-2, 4-2, 2-4. Better than I expected, but I was disappointed
by how the last game went as I believe I should have won. Oh well.
Managed to get some sleep that night, and woke up Saturday with a mostly functioning mind.
Stefan and I decided to go back to the Dual Quad format, this
This was a great tournament, and it is due to two things: Wolfgang's hard work in setting it
up, and the great gamesmanship of the MECCG community. Considering
all the rule nonsense that is inherent in this great game, people
are very cool about it and it is rare that hard feelings mar the
events. I am happy to be part of such a great community!
